Financial Aid

CMU offers competitive stipends to graduate teaching and forensics assistants. Graduate fellowships also are available for the most highly qualified candidates.

Assistantships provide waiver of tuition for up to 20 hours of on-campus classes per academic year and payment of some required university fees. Assistants in good standing receive at least one and one-half years of support and a total of 30 hours of tuition waiver.

Teaching assistants teach two introductory speech communication classes per semester. Forensics assistants teach one introductory class, work with the debate team or individual event participants, and travel with the team to area and national tournaments.

An assistantship application and two letters of recommendation are due by March 15 to be considered for the next academic year. Early offers are made to highly qualified candidates.  Review of Graduate Teaching Assistantship applications begins on March 15 each year, for admission beginning in the fall semester of the next academic year, and continue until all positions are filled.  To be eligible for consideration for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship you must meet all admission requirements for the Master’s degree program.

Graduate Fellowships are also available for the most highly qualified candidates through the College of Graduate Studies.  For more information regarding the various fellowships available please contact the College of Graduate Studies at http://www.grad.cmich.edu or write to:
