Curriculum

Graduate study in Interpersonal and Public Communication provides students with a broad background in the theories and principles that guide human communication. Within a stimulating, challenging and rewarding educational environment students learn to critically evaluate and apply communication theory and research methods to analyze communication problems in everyday life and work situations. A typical curriculum for students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Interpersonal and Public Communication is as follows:

COM 600: Introduction to Research and Graduate Study in Speech Communication and Dramatic Arts (3 Credit Hours)
COM 601: Research Design in Speech Communication (3 Credit Hours)
COM 661: Contemporary Communication Theory (3 Credit Hours)
COM 664: Advanced Organizational Communication (3 Credit Hours)
COM 668: Advanced Interpersonal Communication (3 Credit Hours)
COM 602: Qualitative Research Methods (3 Credit Hours) OR
COM 750: Rhetorical Criticism (3 Credit Hours)
COM 798: Thesis (6 Credit Hours)
COM ___ Elective courses (6 Credit Hours)

Total Required Hours: 30

NOTE: COM 600, COM 661 and COM 668 are offered each fall semester; COM 601 and COM 664 are offered each spring semester; COM 602 is offered odd years in the spring semester (2009, 2011) and COM 750 is offered even years in the spring semester (2008, 2010). Graduate Teaching Assistants will take COM 795: Seminar: Teaching College Speech Communication (3)
