At the recent ATHE conference in New Orleans, five panels sponsored by the Electronic Technology Committee (ETC) were recorded for podcast to ATHE members.  These recording were made using an Apple iPod and have been edited using free software called Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net).  The results are posted below as MP3 audio files (click on the file size to play the audio file; right click in Windows or control+click in Mac OS to download/save file).

A note about the editing.  All of the panelists involved in these ETC sessions gave permission for their presentations and comments to be recorded and posted in this fashion.  We did not ask members of the audience for permission to use their voices; instead, we opted to edit their comments and questions, and re-record them using a single voice (ETC member Tim Connors).  In all cases, audience comments and questions have been re-recorded in a manner that attempts to be both accurate and true to the intent of the audience.  In some cases, however, due to the limitations of the microphone and/or interference from panels in adjoining rooms, it was impossible to determine what the audience member was saying.  Those comments have simply been cut from the final edit.  The only voices clearly present on the podcasts are those of the panelists, ETC Chair Judith Sebesta, ETC member Tim Connors, and occasional general audience response (e.g., laughter, applause).  The attempt to respect audience privacy has resulted in the occasional "clunky" edit for which I apologize.

What's posted here.  The following sessions were recorded:  "Teaching in the 21st Century" (Thursday, July 26; 1:30-3:00 p.m.); "Interactive Media in Immersive Performance and a Taxonomy of Digital Performance" (Thursday, July 26; 3:15-4:45 p.m.); "Online Teaching and MERLOT" (Saturday, July 28; 8:30-10:00 a.m.); and "Composing an Electronic Dissertation" (Saturday, July 28; 4:00-5:30 p.m.).
For the first two sessions above I have posted both a full-length recording of the session as well as the discreet presentations of the panelists.  The other two sessions are posted in full-length versions only due to the more overlapping nature of the presentations.  The fifth session – "Electronic Publishing: The State of the Field" (Saturday, July 28; 5:45-7:15 p.m.) – has a high level of background interference that I have not been able to satisfactorily reduce and is not yet posted.
In addition, some of the panelists used PowerPoint in their presentations.  When available, those PowerPoints are also posted below.

Cautionary note.  As you can see, some of the files are quite large.  Downloading to computers with stable, high speed Internet connections is strongly recommended (click on the file size to play the audio file; right click in Windows or control+click in Mac OS to download/save file).

Questions, concerns and problems should be addressed to Tim Connors, Central Michigan University.
