Make Central Michigan Universities dance program your next step toward the concert stage or a rewarding dance or teaching career you might not have considered. CMU offers opportunities to explore a variety of dance-related professions, from performance to teaching.

The minor in dance provides performance experiences and a well-rounded curriculum for students who wish to combine the study of dance with a degree education or some other discipline.

You already know that dance requires coordination, agility, grace and creativity. CMU's program will help you further develop your skills and increase your knowledge of the methods and theories of traditional and contemporary dance.

After you earn a minor in dance at CMU, you may pursue a career on the professional dance circuit, or you may discover the joy of being a teacher who can motivate children through the art of dance.

Orchesis Dance Theatre performs in the fall and spring semesters and once annually as part of the University Theatre series. Performances are held on campus in the Grace L. Ryan Studio, Plachta Auditorium and Bush Theatre.

The respected dance company features 30 to 40 talented university students in professionally choreographed jazz, ballet, contemporary and ethnic dances. Orchesis Dance Theatre membership is awarded through audition at the beginning of the fall semester. The company holds memberships and competes in the American College Dance Festival Association and the National Dance Association.
